Renick’s In Home Lifestyle Newborn Portraits–McKinney, Texas–Meghan Holden Photography

Newborns

Remember Heather? I shared her maternity portraits a month or so ago. She was waiting to find out the sex of her baby. I’m so impatient! I could never do it! I didn’t even know Heather until this year and not knowing was killing ME, essentially a stranger! I was SO excited to hear that she had a BOY!! Two girls and now she’s got a little boy! I am so ecstatic for her! I was even more giddy to take this little guy’s newborn portraits! He was such a dream! After talking to Heather about his birth, it sounds like he was a dream to deliver too-quick! Hearing other moms birth stories is one of my favorite parts of in home lifestyle newborn portraits. I love getting to hear the birth story, they are always so different from mom to mom and even kid to kid.

I also love hearing about babies’ names. Where did you find the name? Is it a family name? Is it something you found online? Was it completely made up? Did you name them after someone or get the name from a person you know? Renick’s name was the last name of a friend of theirs who passed away. I LOVE this. I think honoring loved ones with their names are so special (I’ve done it myself with both my kids, so maybe I’m bias, but I think it’s so sweet!). I’ve also loved the idea of naming kids with the last name of loved ones. It makes the name more unique.

Something else I love about photographing a growing family is seeing how they change with a new family member. I’ve photographed Heather with her two girls this past year around mothers day and again for her maternity shoot. It was so good seeing these girls in the role of “big sister”. It was actually easier getting a genuine smile out of them because all I had to do was say, Okay, smile at me like you’re excited to have a little baby brother! It truly brings my heart so much joy watching how content and happy families are after the birth of a newborn.

Even though there are certainly struggles during this time period with lack of sleep, new routines, and new schedules, this season is a sweet one. Learning to slow down and enjoy one another and bond as a bigger family is just so sweet. I’m always reminded how quickly life goes when I am taking newborn portraits. It’s just my favorite. Especially when I compare them to my own baby (8 months-how?! I was just doing his newborn portraits myself!). Mamas-life is so fleeting! I urge you, enjoy and embrace this season, it goes SO fast!!

Okay, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk (rant) about how fast life goes and how cute babies are. Check out how cute Renick is below!
