What to Wear for Fresh 48 Portraits

Momspiration

You’re pregnant and expecting your baby! Yay! If you’re anything like me, your mind is whirling about what you need to buy to be ready. One of the things I was most excited to buy was coordinating outfits so that me and my new baby girl would match for all our pictures the first few days in the hospital. Back when I had my daughter, Fresh 48 Portraits weren’t really a thing (that I knew of), but oh, how I wish they were! If they were, I know I would be wondering what to wear for fresh 48 portraits. These are the first few hours that will be documented with you baby, you want to make sure it’s a beautiful representation of those first few hours!

I’ve had lots of expecting moms asking me what they should wear for this session too-and with good reason! A Fresh 48 Session is unlike any other! You’ve just had a baby, you aren’t going to be in a cute outfit. Since this question has come up a lot lately, I decided a lot of other people are probably wondering the same thing! So I decided to dedicate a blog post to the topic! I hope it helps any pregnant Mama out there!

I really hope this helps any pregnant mama out there! Feel free to share this or save it for later for yourself or anyone else you know who is expecting or trying to get pregnant! Even if you aren’t getting Fresh  48 pictures, you KNOW that you’re still going to be taking pictures and so are your friends and family! Be sure you love the way you and your family look so you will love those photos that represent such a life changing experience!

I’ve honestly had so much fun putting together some ideas for what kinds of outfits you can look for. Whether you love these exact outfits, or are just looking for inspiration for an idea of what to look for, I do want to give you a few pointers in case what you see and want is out of stock or not exactly your style. These tips will help ensure you love your photos, so don’t skip it! If you love the combos you see below, check out the sites I list at the bottom, it’s where I found ALL of it!

A GOOD MIX OF SOLIDS AND PATTERNS

Make sure that you choose a good mix of patterns and solids. You don’t want all solids because that’s boring, and you don’t want all patterns because it’s too busy. Check out the options below to see what I mean about balancing them! Think about how many people are in your family when deciding how many of you will be wearing patterns or solids, too!

BALANCE OF COLORS

Make sure the colors that are present in the patterned outfit, is represented in the “solid” outfits. Check out what I mean below, but I always suggest having “lighter” colors represented on the top half. My style is light and airy, so having outfits that have light and airy colors on top where I am photographing is important. You can certainly have darker colors, but I would make sure to balance them out with lighter colors too. You can see that I have done this below with the examples.

A COMFY, CUTE ROBE FOR MOM

You just had a baby! You are going to want to be comfy! Find a beautiful robe that is ALSO comfy. I wore my robe for like 2 days after having my daughter. I had a c-section and it was so difficult and painful to move, much less shower for a couple of days, so this was awesome! Check out my list at the bottom of my top places to look for reasonably priced robe, because who has money to spend hundreds of dollars on a robe?

P.S. Wearing a robe also makes nursing a dream those first couple of days when you are doing it all. the. time.

OUTFIT EXAMPLES

Fresh 48 Outfit

Probably my favorite because it is neutral, light and airy. I love how these baby gowns can be gender neutral. If you’re having a boy, pair it with the hat. If it’s a girl, put a bow that matches your robe too!

Even though I don’t love dark colors in my images, I can’t help but love these colors together and feel like it is beautiful, especially for a fall birth.
Fresh 48 Outfit

This one is bright and fun. It’s a great option for summer births! If you’re having a boy, you can easily find a gown that is blue and gray striped. You could also do a solid blue or gray and have sister in a floral dress. I hope you’re getting the idea that you can easily change the combination, as long as you have a good balance of solid colors and patterns.

If you’re having a girl, buy a bow that matches the gown!

Again, all you have to do is buy a bow for baby girl if you’re having a girl! If you’re having a boy, you’re good to go!

FAVORITE ROBE SITES

Below are some of my favorite sites that you can buy robes from. You can also find a lot of these brands on Amazon for free and quick shipping! Milkmaid goods is one of my favorites because of the nursing covers they offer! They also have baby gowns that match mom’s robe if you are into that kind of thing and want to be very matchy matchy.

FAVORITE BABY GOWN AND BOW SITES

Okay, Lou Lou and Company is a new favorite of mine. I discovered it at one of my recent sessions when Mom told me she got it for our Fresh 48. The fabric is so incredibly soft and beautiful! You can check out how pretty it is on camera here! I love how unique the gowns are too. They have fun buttons, a small zipper in the front, or completely plain, you get to pick! This fun features make it very gender neutral too, which I love!

Baby Bling Bows have been a long time favorite since Hazel was a newborn because they are the only bow that fit her newborn head. BUT the great thing about them is they grew with her head! I loved that.

Stevie J’s needs a shoutout too, though. The Mom who runs this company went to High School with me. She lives in McKinney and works really hard create bows that are fashionable and durable! For a long time I was under the impression that they only had wraps, but they don’t, they have bows too!

FAVORITE SITES FOR DAD AND SIBLING OUTFITS

I can always count on Old Navy and H&M for a good solid outfit for portraits that coordinate.

Okay, that’s all! If you have any questions feel free to reach out! Helping people create memories they will love and cherish forever is something that is really important to me! Half the battle is being in clothes you love that look great on camera!

If you know a mama who is expecting, share this post with her!
